H1N1 Flu Vaccination Clinic Scheduled for General Public

Published: 12/01/2009 by Bay County Health Department

The Bay County Health Department has scheduled a H1N1 Flu vaccination clinic on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 9am to 3pm at the Gulf Coast Community College cafeteria located in the Student Union East building on the campus. This clinic is for anyone in the community wishing to receive the H1N1 Flu vaccine. People in priority groups who have not yet received their vaccine are encouraged to attend this clinic to receive their H1N1 vaccination. This clinic will be limited to 1000 vaccine doses because shipments of H1N1 vaccine are not yet arriving at regular intervals resulting in a limited supply of vaccine.

"We appreciate the community's cooperation and patience as the health department has worked to distribute the vaccine. We first addressed each priority group per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and are now able to offer the vaccine to the general public. We anticipate continuing to receive vaccine during the next several weeks. We will continue to offer the vaccine to the public through scheduled clinics and medical provider offices throughout the county" stated Dr. Dennis Cookro, Acting Director of the Bay County Health Department.

Persons under 18 will need to be accompanied by their parent or guardian or bring a signed, completed consent form to receive the vaccination. The consent form and Vaccination Information Sheets can be found at our website at www.baycountyhealth.org. The H1N1 Flu vaccination is free and voluntary.

Fighting H1N1 Flu is a three-step approach: 1) get a vaccination, 2) practice everyday prevention (including frequent hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and staying home when sick), and 3) use antiviral drugs correctly if your health professional recommends them.
